Anarchy: an Improvised Rock Opera

Showtime: Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:00pm – $15

Anarchy is a completely sung, completely improvised rock opera featuring some of Chicago’s finest musical improvisers. With roots in modern musicals like Tommy by The Who, Green Day’s American Idiot, Rent, and Spring Awakening Anarchy stages an hour long rebellion that is entirely live and made-up on the spot (music, choreography and lights included). Striving for truth and sincerity in each performance Anarchy will tickle your funny bone while pulling on your heart strings.

Anarchy started in the fall of 2013 as an idea born from the desire to create a brand new form of musical improv, with roots in modern musicals (including shows like Tommy by The Who, Green Day’s American IdiotRent, and Spring Awakening). Co-Founders Molly Todd, Michael Silver, and Brad Kemp met regularly to dissect rock operas, rock musicals and concept albums. Armed with this knowledge, they assembled their first group or Anarchists. Together, they developed their form into what it is today.
Striving for truth and sincerity with each performance, this hour long show is entirely live and made-up on the spot (music, choreography and lights included). Their mission has become unlike anything the improv world has faced before. Thus, Anarchy was born and continues to stage rebellions in the best way possible: through rock. All they need is a geographical location.
Anarchy: An Improvised Rock Opera currently resides with The Second City Training Center (more about this program can be found at
